FootJoy officials say the new Stratos shoe model is notable for three specific features.
There’s the proprietary StratoFoam cushioning system that is employed in the midsole. Made of an EVA/polyolefin blend, it is designed to absorb shock for improved comfort and energy transfer.
“A golf shoe needs to connect your foot to the surface that you’re playing on, but the loud and clear feedback from our target consumer is that it also needs to provide exceptional comfort,” said Richard Fryer, director of product management for FootJoy Footwear. “Our new StratoFoam midsole was designed and developed specifically for golf, providing cloud-like comfort while absorbing and returning the most energy, which results in less foot fatigue after a round.”
According to Fryer, Stratos also employs a VersaTrax+ outsole. It boasts an anti-channeling tread pattern that is engineered to reduce slippage from any angle as well as a configuration that uses multiple TPU compounds to grip any surface – a harder TPU for on-course grip and a softer TPU for traction on harder surfaces.
“Using a non-channeled design, we eliminated any rows of open tread pattern, allowing the shoe to always find the next traction element to catch on the ground,” added Fryer. “The VersaTrax+ outsole delivers the best combination of uncompromising on-course traction with genuine off-course versatility.”
Next are the uppers, made with premium leather from Pittards of England. This component is endowed with an athletic-fit construction that includes an integrated tongue for all-around comfort and a reinforced heel for greater rear-foot stability.
