Titleist’s next generation of drivers promises improved speed, stability and adjustability with the new GTS models.
The tour-validated driver lineup – GTS2, GTS3 and GTS4 – utilizes a new split mass frame that concentrates heavier, dense material rearward for more stability as well as low and forward for more speed and better launch dynamics. The GTS’ thermoform body – using twice the amount of the same proprietary matrix polymer introduced in the GT lineup – makes up nearly 60 percent of the surface area but only 13 percent of the mass in GTS drivers, allowing Titleist’s engineers to redistribute the weight savings more beneficially.
The new construction, seamlessly concealed on the crown, unlocks optimal center-of-gravity positions with high inertia to maintain performance on both on- and off-center strikes, according to the company.
“We know that forward CGs drive speed with great launch and spin characteristics, but you need to be able to do that with an inertial stability that still preserves ball speed, launch and spin consistency on off-center hits,” said Stephanie Luttrell, Titleist’s senior director of metalwood R&D. “We’ve never before been able to hit these CG positions and inertia properties at the same time, and we’re achieving that because of GTS’ construction.”
Other features in the GTS drivers ($699) include: a new Speed Sync face with perimeter support and variable thickness to improve performance across the clubface (particularly on high-face impacts); accelerated aerodynamics with the tail end of the clubhead raised to reduce drag without compromising launch; a new dual-weighting system in each model for more customized fitting; and high-contrast face graphics with sharper lines to help frame the golf ball and see more loft at address.
“When we talk about driver design, it’s never about the one feature or benefit – it’s about all of them,” said Luttrell. “Ball speed, forgiveness, spin stability, adjustability, exceptional sound and feel ... these are all attributes that golfers care about. It’s our job to design a lineup that elevates performance across the board without sacrificing in key areas, and we feel we’ve done that with GTS.”
The GTS2 model is designed for golfers seeking added power and consistency across the face, delivering high launch with mid spin in a sleek, confidence-inspiring profile. Its standard dual weights place 11 grams forward and 5 grams in the back.
The GTS3 is designed for golfers who want more control over speed and ball flight, delivering lower launch and spin in a more compact profile with a deeper face. It features a forward 8-gram track weight with 5 grams in the back.
The GTS4 is the lowest-spinning model, designed for golfers looking to maximize distance. Its 460cc shape is larger than previous “4” models to boost forgiveness on off-center strikes. It also features a forward 8-gram track weight with 5 grams in the back.
