The recently introduced LS and IO products in the Project X line are part of the Next Evolution family of iron shafts – and each is designed with a specific player profile and concept in mind.
“Project X LS started as an engineering task to create the lowest spinning iron shaft on the market,” said Scott Cokeing, senior director of alloy engineering for True Temper and Project X. “The new era of elite golfers is stronger, more athletic and faster than ever, and because of this, they naturally create more launch and spin. So having a shaft designed specifically with that type of golfer in mind was crucial for our line.”
He adds that the LS (for Low Spin) is the first stepless shaft to feature multiple taper rates.
As for Project X IO (for Individually Optimized), it is geared for those players who covet the stability of Project X but want an easier-to-load profile as well as a lighter weight shaft.
“It started with the idea that not all golfers need the same thing from a shaft,” said Don Brown, vice president of innovation and product creation for Project X. “While the stronger players require launch and spin reduction to control their ball, many golfers need more launch and spin to help maximize their distances. With Project X IO, you will see as the flex increases, each shaft gets heavier by five grams and is geometrically modified to launch lower.”
Both are taper-tip shafts that boast a brushed chrome finish, to reduce glare while also endowing them with what Brown calls “a unique look.”
