Less than two years old, the Sacks Parente putter company founded by industry veterans Steve Sacks and Rich Parente already has brought out seven models. Four of those are mallets and three are blades. And it is one of the latter, the recently released Series 66, that is making the biggest impact in the marketplace.
The accuracy and forgiveness that flat “instrument” provides is one reason for that. So is the success that PGA Tour Champions professional Ken Duke enjoyed after he began using a prototype of the Series 66 in April 2019 and climbed from 80th place to third in overall putting statistics by season’s end.
“Golfers will recognize the shape of this club, as it looks very much like an Anser or Newport 2,” says Sacks. “But any resemblance to the past stops there.”
For one thing, he says, the Series 66 putter head features a five-piece, Al-Cu-W Trimetal design that endows the club with a high moment of inertia. More than 80 percent of the overall head weight is located in the heel and toe.
In addition, Sacks says, the Series 66 has what he describes as a “face-forward center of gravity,” in an effort to lessen the sort of side spin that rear-weighted putters often can cause.
Then there is its incorporation of the company’s patented Ultra Low Balance Point technology through the combined use of featherweight grips (between 29 and 34 grams) and ultra-light graphite and carbon fiber shafts (29-35 grams), and milled, tour-weight heads (360 grams). According to Sacks, that naturally squares and releases the putter head at impact and promotes better control, feel and accuracy.
As is the case with all Sacks Parente products, the Series 66 putters can be customized with a choice of three shaft options (Graphite Composite, Tour and Pro Tour X), three grip styles (flat, round and pistol) and five lengths (33, 33.5, 34, 34.5 and 35 inches). They carry a suggested retail price of $599 and may be purchased at any of the more than 70 Club Champion fitting studios in the United States or through the company's website.
