The story behind the new Biom Cool Pro line from Ecco is the use of a pair of technologies to ensure these shoes are as breathable as they are comfortable – and waterproof as well.
One of those advances is called Gore-Tex Surround, which Ecco created in partnership with Gore-Tex and then employed in the Cool Pros with a refined TPU Exhaust grid in the midsole to allow fresh air to come in while enabling heat and moisture to escape. Company officials say that leads to “360-degree breathability and 100 percent waterproof protection.”
“Biom Cool Pro is the only golf shoe on the market featuring this microclimate technology,” says Jesper Thuen, general manager of Ecco Golf USA. “This unique partnership with Gore-Tex is just another example of how Ecco continues to push the envelope of style, comfort and performance.”
But Thuen is quick to add that those innovations are only part of what makes a Cool Pro work. He also touts the Biom Natural Motion last that is employed to provide an anatomical fit supporting the natural form of the foot. And he points out that the shoes boast a low-to-the-ground sole structure for what he describes as “exceptional ground responsiveness.”
Another feature involves the use of a “state change” process in which specialized fluid materials are formed around the last to ensure a proper balance of cushioning and rebound while also creating a flexible yet durable bond without relying on glue or stitching. In addition, a Tri-Fi-Grip outsole is designed to enhance stability and support.
As for the uppers, Ecco makes these from rich, two-tone yak leather that is produced in the company's tanneries. A double-layer neoprene tongue is also included to cushion the foot while providing “step-in comfort and ultimate ease” when it comes to taking the shoes on and off.
