Ping has launched a new range of Heppler putters which are among the most distinctive clubs the company has produced.
Their striking black-and-copper colour combinations certainly will make them stand out on putter racks, and as always with Ping they are crammed full of technological advances aimed at helping golfers to get the most from their games.
The new range of nine blade, mid-mallet and mallet putters is named after longtime company employee Rick Heppler, who was hired originally by company founder Karsten Solheim to help his son, John A. Solheim, build putters in the family garage. Heppler held several management positions before dying in a motorbike accident in 2013.
One of the first things to notice about the putters is their solid face construction. The face material – either aluminium or steel – varies from model to model but in each instance is designed to provide a firmer feel and sound than the vast majority of putters currently on the market.
“We saw a high percentage of testers improve their strokes-gained results with a Heppler model, indicating that many golfers prefer the firmer sound and feel of a solid face design,” said current Ping president John K. Solheim. “We see the new putters as an appealing alternative to our Sigma 2 series which offers a softer feel and sound through its dual-durometer insert and TR face technology. Our primary goal is to provide golfers a custom-fit putter with their desired feel and sound and which delivers the performance and consistency they need to hole more putts.”
The new Heppler range of putters are pressure-cast and feature significant advances to the adjustable-length shaft technology first found in the Sigma 2 family. Each shaft is finished in black chrome, which adds to the visual appeal of the new range, and can be adjusted between 32 and 36 inches in length to fit a golfer’s stroke and posture.
“We’ve taken a very technical challenge and simplified it for the benefit of golfers,” said Solheim. “It allows you to experiment with various lengths and ultimately fit yourself. You simply adjust it until you’re comfortable, ideally with your eyes directly over the ball, or slightly inside the line. The performance improvements with a putter fit to the proper length are significant. We strongly encourage golfers to take advantage of this innovative feature.”
The custom-fit message is also enhanced by a choice of four grip options – the PP59 (standard), PP60 (midsize and lightweight), PP61 (exaggerated pistol shape and slightly heavier) and PP62 (larger, more rounded to promote quieter hands).
The nine putters in the Heppler range vary in recommended retail price between £250 and £275.
