The lone PGA Tour Signature Event in NorCal went to one of golf’s biggest names.
Rory McIlroy eagled the par-5 14th thanks in part to a 339-yard drive and birdied the ensuing 15th hole en route to a final round 6-under 66 to win the annual AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in February by two shots over good friend Shane Lowry.
“There's a few what I would call ‘cathedrals of golf,’” said the now-35-year-old McIlroy, who finished with a four-day total of 21-under 267 in cold and wet conditions that at times resembled his native Ireland. “Here, Augusta, St. Andrews, obviously. Maybe a few more you could add in there. And I had a big fat zero on all of those going in here. So to knock one off of Pebble is very cool.”
This victory gave McIlroy an encouraging start to 2025 on the heels of a year where he called himself the ‘Nearly Man.’ Last season, he finished second four times, including a heart-breaking loss at the U.S. Open at Pinehurst.
Both Lowry and McIlroy got going early at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. In Thursday’s first round McIlroy aced the par-3 15th hole at Spyglass Hill. Lowry followed him with an ace at Pebble’s par-3 7th hole.
In a classy move, the two bought beers for those working in the media center.
