Former tennis star Mardy Fish is right at home in Lake Tahoe.
The now 44-year-old, once the No.1 ranked American in tennis, captured his third American Century Championship in early July, beating defending champ Joe Pavelski by six points.
Fish had a 20-point final round at Edgewood Tahoe under the modified Stableford scoring system to get to 72. He also won the event in 2020 and 2024.
Pavelski, formerly of the San Jose Sharks, had an 18-point round. Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry was third at 59.
The victories for Fish beg the question—Does he have any regrets of not pursuing a career in golf?
“I think I played the right sport, but I am obsessed with this game,” Fish, a former U.S. Davis Cup captain and 2004 Olympic silver medalist told NBC. “I do love playing. This is the best week of the year. It’s the best email of the year when you get the invite.”
With his win, Fish is now tied with former Dallas Cowboys star Tony Romo and former Oakland A’s ace Mark Mulder for fourth with three American Century Championship victories. Former MLB pitcher Rick Rhoden has a record eight wins.
Featuring sports and entertainment celebrities, the American Century Championship is in its 37th year and continues to be a big fundraiser for local and national charities.
