What is Rose Zhang going to do next?
Just 13 days after winning an unprecedented second straight NCAA title, Zhang went out and won the LPGA Mizuho Americas Open in what was her debut as a professional.
With the victory, Zhang became the first player in 72 years to win on the LPGA Tour in her debut.
How magical has Zhang’s recent run been?
Even Tiger Woods, also an ex-Stanford star, stopped to tip his cat, tweeting: "Incredible few weeks for Rose Zhang, defends her NCAA title and then wins in her Pro debut. Go Card!"
Woods has reason to salute Zhang. When she won the NCAA crown, it was her eighth victory of the collegiate season, tying Lorena Ochoa’s NCAA single-season record, and marked Zhang’s 12th career win in 20 starts as a Cardinal. The dozen victories set a mark for the most in Stanford history, surpassing all women and men including Woods.
And Zhang is still only 20 years old.
"I just can't believe it," Zhang said. "It was just last week when I won NCAAs with my teammates, and to turn pro and come out here, it's just been amazing. I've enjoyed the journey."
Count us among those excited to see what she does at the U.S. Women’s Open at Pebble Beach Golf Links.
