NorCal native Kathleen Scavo won’t forget her visit to Kansas anytime soon.
Having struggled at times earlier in the season, Scavo picked up her first win on the Epson Tour at the Dream First Bank Charity Classic in June after defeating Daniela Iacobelli in a grueling six-hole playoff.
The par-putt that won it for Scavo was nearly identical to a putt she had missed earlier in regulation.
“It feels amazing to finally get a win,” said Scavo, whose NorCal resume includes back-to-back wins at the California Junior Girls’ State Championship (2012-13).
The win came at a perfect time for Scavo. The now 26-year-old, who played collegiately at University of Oregon, was having doubts about her game. In 11 previous starts she had only made four cuts with her best result being a tie for 28th. The victory, along with being a confidence booster, saw her leap from No. 122 to No. 18 in the Race for the Card standings. The top 15 at the end of the season will earn their LPGA Tour card.
"They say your journey is a marathon, not a sprint," Scavo said. "Eventually, I was able to, you know, get over the hump and play golf that I know that I could play."
