Golf writer Tavelin’ Joe Passov has seen quite a few holes in his journeys.
As to what he thinks are great risk/reward holes:
“Great risk/reward holes offer a risky option that provides a palpable reward. Sometimes this takes the form of a bite-off-as-much-as-you-dare carry over a hazard, or playing as close as you can to a hazard, in order to afford a shorter shot or more advantageous angle to approach the green. Other times, finding the green itself is the reward. In every case, the architect has provided a “safe” option for the risk-averse. These superior golf holes require thinking, choices, decisions and execution.”
So what are some of the best risk/reward par-4 and par-5 holes in Northern California that you can play?
Passov shares his list, which includes a challenge at Spyglass Hill and a beautiful but dangerous finish at NCGA member course Poppy Hills.
