I recently started a new online business called BodyLab Fitness. Through this venture, we focus on our clients’ goals in golf and fitness to help them recognize their best selves on and off the course.
One of my initial programs is the BodyLab Golf Performance eXperience VIP Challenge. This 14-day virtual program helps athletes unlock their golf potential to elevate their game. Through our efforts, clients can gain 15 yards or more off the tee during these two weeks. These golfers are often unsure about their golf swing, frustrated with their progress in golf, investing far too much money in ineffective resources and aspire to reach their goals in the game…with a little help and encouragement.
Week one of the 14-day program is all about the fundamentals, including stability, strength and establishing a firm base to build upon. We start on a Sunday with a group Google Meet call that lays the foundation and breaks down how the program will work. Participants can ask any questions they may have about the program. This is the first group session and follows individual assessments that I will already have performed with each client.
I always say, “If you aren’t assessing, you’re guessing.” So, we start each challenge with an assessment and movement screen to uncover any physical limitations that may inhibit swing efficiency, durability and the golfer’s enjoyment when playing the game. It often doesn’t matter how well the golfer comprehends the golf swing if his or her body is unable to perform the required actions and movements and achieve certain positions from address to follow-through. The personalized movement screen identifies key areas that may be hindering progress, and corrective exercises are shared with the clients via the TPI Pro app. They can see exactly what they’re working on and how these efforts are affecting their golf swing.
We also use the BodyLab GPX app for participants to communicate with me and with each other (the 19th Hole). They can also track their workouts and their driving distance as they progress.
Each day of the program is either a “tune” day or a “train” day (alternating). “Tune” days are essential for addressing any physical limitations that could hinder swing efficiency and overall performance on the course. Golfers perform their correctives and potentially other mobility and activation exercises on these days.
Coach-led “train” days focus on mastering the fundamental elements of golf performance training, ensuring that clients build a solid foundation for the more advanced techniques to come. This comprehensive approach in the first week prepares participants for measurable improvement in their physical fitness and golf performance. We put these sessions on the app for clients to refer back to if they were unable to make the live session. All exercises and workouts have a video demonstration to help participants perform the movements correctly.
In the second week, we build on the foundation established in the first week, with a focus on enhancing functional movement, rotational power and overall golf performance. Golfers continue to refine their body’s function through customized corrective exercises. These exercises are essential for maintaining the flexibility and stability required for an efficient golf swing. We also shift to developing rotational power, a key component for increasing driving distance and swing speed. The group session on Monday of the second week emphasizes this aspect, allowing clients to practice and perfect the movements necessary for generating maximum power during their swing.
The week concludes with a bonus group session on Saturday, where we’ll recap the skills and techniques presented throughout the challenge. This final golf performance day builds on the clients’ improved mobility, stability, strength and power. It is designed to help the group feel the golf swing instinctively, translating these skills onto the course. Ideally, they’ll step up to the tee with more confidence and will no longer overthink each moving part. They’ll allow the body to execute the golf swing more naturally.
We held our initial 14-day challenge in September with 80 percent of the participants being new clients. Results include more control, greater distance off the tee and lower scores, which is every golfer’s ultimate goal. Each participant receives a GolfForever Swing Trainer to use during the program and keep at its conclusion.
With this success, I look forward to building my client base on a long-term basis to help them eXperience maximum enjoyment in the game.
