First Tee – Southern Colorado is building remarkable momentum this year, expanding its reach and deepening its impact across multiple communities. During my recent site visit, I had the pleasure of seeing their programming in action. With nearly 40 elementary-aged youth fully engaged in games and stations both on the chipping green and the short course, the energy and engagement were truly undeniable.
In addition to great programming, First Tee – Southern Colorado continues to find innovative ways to reach new students. This fall, they are launching a year-round Homeschool Golf Program that will serve 33 students in the Colorado Springs area. Designed to count toward physical education credit, students will receive three hours of golf instruction each week across a 36-week curriculum. Another creative solution to meet a rising community need.
They’ve also made notable progress in boosting female participation, increasing engagement in all of their target markets. In total, they are on pace to serve more than 5,300 students this calendar year, which is yet another milestone that reflects their thoughtful approach to programming and growth.
In Pueblo County, they are filling a unique gap by offering weekly Friday camps that align with the local school district’s four-day academic week. These Friday programs provide a consistent, community-centered opportunity for students on their off day, reinforcing the role of golf as a tool for connection and positive development.
Despite having a small full-time team, this chapter excels in maintaining a strong student-to-instructor ratio, thanks in part to a dedicated group of volunteers. Their commitment to high-quality instruction, paired with smart programmatic expansion, makes First Tee – Southern Colorado a standout example of innovation and impact in the youth development space.
The Colorado Golf Association and Colorado Golf Foundation are proud to support their work, and know they’re making the difference.
