This year, the CGA is proud to have 4,942 junior members among our 84,000 members. As part of their membership, kids enjoy access to Colorado Youth on Course. This unique program provides $5 (or less) rounds of golf at 42 participating courses and facilities in Colorado and 2,000 courses throughout the U.S. and Canada. Each round is subsidized thanks to support from our generous donors and course partners.
To raise awareness and financial support for this program, 12 intrepid golfers are participating in “Golf's Ultimate Charitable Challenge” on September 25th at CommonGround Golf Course and become “Hikers” and take on the formidable challenge of playing (and walking!) 100 holes of golf in one day. All in an effort to help ensure young people have affordable access to golf and the life-changing opportunities that come with playing the sport.
Leading the CGA’s 4th 100 Hole Hike in Colorado is Brandon Kuhl, a junior golf parent and advocate for the CGA & Youth on Course’s commitment to create affordable golf for kids around the state. Learn more about Brandon and why everyone should support the CGA’s annual 100 Hole Hike.
Junior golf has been a part of our families lives for the last 7 years through my son Miles. I have watched Miles grow through the game and the people and friends that he has met here in Colorado and across the country because of golf will be there for a long time. I want to give back to the golfing community and raise money so other kids can experience what we have over the years. And this is the best way to do that as I like a good endurance challenge!
The challenge of the day! It isn't easy to spend 10+ hours, walking 30+ miles and playing 100+ holes of golf. But when we tee it up at 6:30am, as the sun starts to rise, there is nothing better than knowing that you are helping to create opportunities for kids to play golf.
Around 1pm! Just as you finish eating the lunch provided, the sun is shining directly on you, and you look down at your score sheet and realize you still have 27 more holes to play!
This year has been a little tougher to prepare for. Normally I am training for a race or some sort of big event but this summer we have spent time traveling to a few of Miles golf tournaments, but I am starting to increase my training and will be ready! I think it gets easier as I know what to expect!
I appreciate everyone who supports this cause and would like more people to consider doing it. The Colorado Golf Association and Youth on Course strive to create programs developed for kids across the country to experience playing golf, something that is often out of reach. By making golf more accessible for kids, they will get the ability to be outside, meet new and lasting friends and learn different lessons that can help transition them to their adult lives.
