In much the same way it rejuvenates veteran PGA Tour golfers, turning 50 has invigorated the Colorado Golf Hall of Fame.
Founded in 1973 to honor the golf greats of the Centennial State, the nonprofit organization has made the most of its golden anniversary year.
In April, after 17 years at the Riverdale Golf Courses in Brighton, the Colorado Golf Hall of Fame debuted a dazzling, $1.7 million museum at The Broadmoor Golf Club that many have called the finest of its kind anywhere. “We should be very proud as Coloradans to have this here,” Hall of Famer Jim Bunch said at the grand opening.
Three months later, more than 100 golfers arrived at The Broadmoor’s East course for the annual Colorado Golf Hall of Fame tournament, in which this year’s participants had the privilege of an inductee joining their foursome and the post-round festivities.
Now comes the capstone….
The Hall of Fame will culminate its golden anniversary year November 18th with a gala at Broadmoor Hall entitled “A Celebration of Excellence.” Hosted by 9News anchor Tom Green, this special occasion will include a cocktail reception followed by dinner, multimedia presentations, recognition of Hall of Fame inductees and a special “fireside chat” with a foursome of Colorado’s own: three-time U.S Open Champion Hale Irwin, 1982 Masters Champion Craig Stadler, 1996 U.S. Open Champion Steve Jones and three-time U.S. Women’s Open and U.S. Girls’ Junior champion Hollis Stacy.
Of the 148 men and women inducted into the Colorado Golf Hall of Fame, 60 remain with us. Many of them will attend the gala, as will representatives of inductees who have passed.
To be sure, it’s an opportunity to be in the presence of greatness—at Colorado’s only 5-Star, 5-Diamond resort.
Tables of 10 for “A Celebration of Excellence” require a $5,000 tax-deductible donation to the Colorado Golf Hall of Fame. Individual seats run $600. As a bonus, The Broadmoor is offering gala guests a special Colorado Golf Hall of Fame room rate of $199 (plus taxes) for the nights of Friday, November 17 and/or November 18. Weather permitting, guests can also play a complimentary 10 holes that weekend on the original Donald Ross-designed course. Cart fees apply.
To donate and join the celebration,
“Colorado has a rich golf history and individuals who have accomplished great things on a state and national level,” Hall of Fame Vice President Mark Passey explained. “Having our museum and gala at our new home at The Broadmoor adds another level of credibility to these people and shines a bright light on their treasures and their accomplishments.”
In other words, this is what 50 looks like.
