We celebrate Disability Pride Month in July, recognizing the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act in July 1990. What two cities celebrated the anniversary with Disability Pride Parades and in what months did they celebrate them? Using the library’s newspaper resources, see if you can find the cities and months.
Hint: You can use the Major Daily Newspapers database with your library card to search some of the largest daily US newspapers. On the site, go to Research, Popular Topics, Newspapers, and then Major Daily Newspapers. Search for the terms: “Disability Pride,” with quotation marks, and see what you can find.
The Denver Public Library’s Summer of Adventure program will be in full swing by July, encouraging youth from birth to 12th grade to READ, MAKE, and EXPLORE both independently and inside the library. One way to MAKE from home is through Craftsy, an online resource for all creative makers.
Hint: You can access Craftsy with your library card to find crafting information ranging from basic instruction to advanced techniques, including a Fun for Kids section. On the site, go to Research, Popular Topics, Lifelong Learning and Education, then Craftsy. Browse through “Classes” and see what you can find to make!
