It was a great time to honor the deserving individuals and chapters of the past year during the NHF 2021 Bleeding Disorders Conference Awards Ceremony August 28, sponsored by Takeda.
After a rousing performance by longtime community member and musician Maxwell Feinstein and his band, conference co-chairs Eric Iglewski, LMSW, and Mosi Williams, PsyD, presented the tribute and recognition of 22 different award recipients. The Nurse of the Year choice, by the Nursing Working Group, provided a fitting start for the year’s event. Margaret Sennett, PNP, UVA Health, received the honor.
A pediatric hematology and oncology nurse in Central Virginia, she has guided patients and families to successful treatment and management of their bleeding disorders.
Physical Therapist of the Year, chosen by the Physical Therapist Working Group, went to Cindy Bailey, PT, DPT, OCS, SCS, ATC, EMT, Orthopaedic Hemophilia Treatment Center at Orthopaedic Institute for Children. One of the most credentialed physical therapists practicing today, Bailey partners with those in her care, helping them boost quality of life and keeping them doing the things they want to do, no matter their age.
Stefanie Dugan, MS, CGC, Comprehensive Center for Bleeding Disorders, Versiti Blood Center of Wisconsin, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, was named Genetic Counselor of the Year. She has had the privilege of working with children and adults with severe bleeding disorders, including von Willebrand disease, since 1999. ■
