A member of YES! Hotels group, NEW Hotel opened its doors on in July 2011 fully encapsulating the YES! Hotels philosophy - Young, Enthusiastic and Seductive. NEW hotel is in the heart of Athens within walking distance from the city’s main attractions. NEW Hotel encompasses the heritage of its past by using recycled parts of the former hotel and reinterpreted local materials to create a complete work of art, making NEW Hotel the one and only contemporary hotel in Athens.
The old elements of the past are cleverly contrasted by a blend of new modern art, sculpture and design on the inside. NEW hotel is the first ever hotel project of award-winning designer duo, Fernando and Humberto Campana, who were commissioned for their eco-friendly ethos, their love for contemporary materials and their sensitivity to local culture. This ethos is apparent in every aspect of NEW Hotel’s design, allowing it to blend in seamlessly with the neighborhood in which it stands. In line with the design duo’s love of restoring, recycling and sharing, the team created unusual and stylish chairs, plates and side lamps by hand.
This 79-room and suites establishment is one of the city’s finest examples for modern architecture. All the guestrooms from the 1st to the 6th floor enjoy natural day light. With their floor to ceiling windows, and solid bamboo floors and tables, they are faithful to the Campana exploration of space. Equally breathtaking are the bathrooms, replicating the creative use of materials and spaces. Washbasins take the form of ‘fragmented rocks’, playing with the painstaking assemblage of favela shapes, a theme reproduced throughout the hotel. Some washbasins can even be mistaken for sculptures, as they are separately located from the shower room.
Designed to perfection, the spacious penthouse suite encapsulates the Campana aesthetic in all its 70 square meters. Every piece of furniture, every fixture and furnishing, even the custom-made carpet has been handpicked to create a sense of understated yet unsurpassable exclusivity. Each space is meticulously designed to maximize comfort, with separate sleeping room and living room areas. Entirely cast from marble, the bathroom adds to the plush effect. The suite has a large terrace which appears to be embracing the city below, affording 360° views of all the historical landmarks, including the Acropolis, Lycabettus Hill, Syntagma Square and the House of Parliament.
