Dear Campers,
Affordable adventure awaits in New York State’s great outdoors!
Research continues to show the importance of stepping away from screens to not only improve our personal wellbeing but our connection with others. It’s why I created the “Get Offline, Get Outside” campaign that encourages you to take a breath and connect with nature. What better place to do so than in New York, home to world-class public lands?
We, as New Yorkers, know that the Empire State is brimming with one-of-a-kind views and vistas, as well as affordable recreation. From mighty Niagara Falls State Park, where an incredible 3,160 tons of water flows over the falls every second, to the forever wild 6.1 million acres of the Adirondacks, which is larger than Yellowstone, Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Glacier, and Great Smoky Mountains National Parks combined! You don’t have to travel far to witness the amazing natural world around us.
I know first-hand how important access to the outdoors is, and I intend to ensure public access to open spaces and recreational assets, like campgrounds, continues to be a right – not a privilege – afforded to all New Yorkers. Thank you for doing your part to show your public lands appreciation through visitation and stewardship.
Whether hiking, picnicking, reading a book, fishing, boating, sleeping under the stars, or roasting a marshmallow this camping season, I wish you all a safe, memorable, restful time. And I hope to see you and your families out exploring New York’s great outdoors!
We’ll see you out there!
Sincerely,
Kathy Hochul, Governor
