Will our lives ever be normal again? Our lives have changed in so many ways over the past year. Between the pandemic, the political climate, the "peaceful protests” to defund the police, we find ourselves in midst of a volatile chapter in our nation's modern history.
As a result of these events, we have seen a 60% increase in background checks to purchase firearms. As of August 2020, nearly 5 million Americans have purchased a firearm for the first time as a direct result of the pandemic and the nationwide protests. Through all of the adversity we have witnessed a positive. We have seen more Americans embrace their right to bear arms. Exercising their right to self-preservation and that of their family. It is my opinion that if Americans do not exercise their right to bear arms today, they may not have the opportunity to exercise that right in the not-too-distant future.
The current administration has halted the construction of the border wall and extended the deportation protection. The world has taken this as an open invitation. With that in mind, we have witnessed a recent surge at our southern border of illegals coming into our country. These illegals are not vetted in any manner. Any criminal history has been disregarded placing American citizens in harm's way. Not to mention that these countries of origin do not have the vaccinations and immunizations requirements that we have here in the US. From birth US citizens are vaccinated for Measels, Mumps, Rubella and many others. Are we not in the middle of a pandemic that has shut down our economy? Will we make the COVID Vaccine available to these illegal aliens before US citizens? When will the health and protection of Americans become paramount?
Our elected officials swore to uphold and protect our constitution as a part of their oath when they took office. Now with the House of Representatives and Senate being so politically one sided, these elected officials are attempting to change the very constitution that they swore to uphold. Instead of keeping their focus on the economy, rising unemployment and our border security, they are obsessed with putting a stranglehold on gun ownership by pushing new sweeping gun legislation such as H.R. -127 Proposed Firearms and Ammunition Control Law.
This new piece of legislation would force law abiding gun owners to register each firearm that they legally own, creating a national gun registry. It would also give the ATF the ability to come into your home to seize any such firearms without probable cause or a warrant. Thus, forfeiting your Fourth Amendment Right.
Under the proposed legislation, you would be required to apply for a federal gun license. In order to be approved for this gun license, you would be required to submit to a psychological evaluation. Each member of your household would also be required to submit to a psychological evaluation. They would then speak to any ex-spouse and two of your associates to determine if you are of sound mind to own a firearm.
Should you pass this psychological evaluation and are granted permission obtain a gun license, you would be required to purchase firearm insurance at the cost of $800.00. This new “gun license” would not be without restriction though. Under the terms of this new license, you would be prohibited from owning any type of AR-15 or any similar type weapon. High-capacity magazines? You can forget those too. You would be prohibited from owning any firearm .50 caliber or larger. Furthermore, you would not be permitted to lend or sell any of your firearms or ammunition without prior notification of the Attorney General.
It is explicitly written in our constitution. Our right to bear arms “Shall Not Be Infringed”. Our forefathers put that little tid bit into our constitution for a reason. Big Government always wants to control large aspects of our daily life for “Our Own Protection”. Open up a history book and see how that has worked out for other countries throughout the ages. Do not let that happen to us....
