As we roll into one of my favorite times of the year—summertime—there’s an undeniable energy in the air that draws us back to nature. It’s the perfect season to unplug, breathe in some fresh air, and immerse yourself in everything the outdoors has to offer. From boating and hiking to fishing, camping, and cooking over an open fire, the list of summertime adventures is as long as the daylight hours. For those of us who live and breathe the outdoor lifestyle, these months are a welcome reminder of why we do what we do.
But for many of us, summer isn’t just about enjoying the moment—it’s also about looking ahead and laying the groundwork for a successful fall hunting season. The off-season is the ideal time to get your hands dirty and prepare. Whether you're planting food plots to attract game, checking and repositioning trail cameras, or scouting new terrain for potential hot spots, every bit of work you put in now will pay dividends later. It's also the perfect time to fine-tune your gear—sighting in your rifle, practicing with your bow, and making sure all your equipment is in top shape. Dialing in your skills and setup during these warm months can make all the difference when the leaves begin to fall and the action starts to heat up. In this edition, we’ve included a detailed and practical article that outlines smart strategies for selecting and setting up your treestand or ground blind. Because as seasoned hunters know, success in the field often begins with smart, early-season preparation.
We are also very excited to bring you our feature story. In this month’s edition of American Outdoor News we speak to a true icon and legendary professional wrestler Stone Cold Steve Austin. While millions know him from his time in the ring, what some may not realize is that Steve is a passionate outdoorsman at heart. Raised in Texas, he was introduced to hunting at a young age while tagging along with his father and his brother on their hunts. His respect for nature and conservation has only grown stronger with time. In our exclusive interview, he shares his personal story about his time in the field, his connection to the land, and the role the outdoors continues to play in his life today.
So, whether you are chasing adventure in the backcountry, firing up the grill after a long day on the water, or walking your property in search of the perfect ambush point, we hope this issue inspires you to get outside and embrace it all. As always, thank you for being a part of the American Outdoor News family—we’re proud to share this journey with you.
Thank you again for following along. It truly is my pleasure
Sincerely
Chris Avena
