In a world where the outdoors brings peace, purpose, and connection, there are few organizations that capture that spirit quite like the Hunt of a Lifetime Foundation. This remarkable nonprofit brings hope to children and young adults with life-threatening illnesses by granting them the hunting and fishing adventures of their dreams.
This amazing organization was founded in 1999 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to granting outdoor dreams to youth aged 21 and under who are battling serious illnesses. While medical appointments and hospital visits may monopolize their daily lives, this foundation gives them something far more powerful. It gives them a chance to experience the healing spirit of nature, adventure, and accomplishment. Whether they are chasing elk through the Rockies, reeling in a trophy fish, or sitting quietly in a deer stand at sunrise, these experiences create lasting memories that is transcending.
The foundation’s story began with a young man named Matt Pattison, who dreamed of hunting moose while he was battling lymphoma. When he became too old to qualify for other wish-granting organizations, his stepmother, Tina Pattison, raised the funds herself to make his dream come true. After Matt’s passing, the money collected in his honor became the seed that grew into Hunt of a Lifetime. What began as one young man’s dream now continues to inspire hundreds of outdoor adventures for children across the country.
Each adventure is tailored to meet each child’s dream, complete with guides, outfitters, and volunteers who handle logistics, gear, and safety. The result is more than just a hunt or fishing trip. It’s a reminder of what makes the outdoor lifestyle so special, camaraderie, courage, and connection. Participants come away with newfound confidence, families find moments of joy, and communities are reminded of the healing power of the outdoors.
The success of Hunt of a Lifetime is dependent on those who share their passion for the outdoors. Individuals and companies can get involved by sponsoring a hunt, donating gear, or volunteering time and expertise. Outdoor brands, guides, and outfitters are encouraged to lend support, whether through funding, hosting trips, or helping spread the word.
The Hunt of a Lifetime Foundation continues to embody what it means to live life fully, no matter what the challenge is. Every hunt, every cast, and every sunrise shared with these young adventurers is a testament to resilience, love, and the unbreakable bond between people and the wild places they cherish.
