Welcome to the Summer 2023 issue of Winds of Change! There’s so much to love about this season, which brings powwows, reunions with family and friends, and for many of our hard-working students, college tours and a great chance to grow through internships.
For your wonderful AISES staff, this is also the season of relatively short-term planning for the National Conference, coming up October 19–21 in beautiful Spokane, Wash. Don’t miss this chance to network, learn, and reconnect with the AISES family — not to mention be on the scene for the biggest College and Career Fair in Indian Country.
That fair is an important opportunity to grow your career, whether you are looking for your first step to a bright future or your next one. Helping our members advance is an important goal at AISES, and every summer in Winds of Change we offer a rundown of some promising positions in a growing field. In this edition, read about top jobs in big data. Another article about careers focuses on roles that help address the dental care crisis in Indian Country.
Don’t miss this chance to network, learn, and reconnect with the AISES family — not to mention be on the scene for the biggest College and Career Fair in Indian Country.
You’ll find more growth-oriented content in “Paths in Education” and “Career Builder.” In “AISES Notebook,” you can catch up on news of our busy members and chapters.
As always, this issue includes stories of individual members in “AISES People,” where you’ll meet amazing individuals like Shanell Sinclair. She reminds me of so many AISES students — persevering to get the degree she needs to achieve her dreams while assuming leadership roles to support Indigenous students at her school and taking care of her family. Shanell hopes to have a “huge part” in preparing future generations to succeed in STEM, and like all of us at AISES, she believes “youth are the key to our future.”
I hope you will help us sustain the work of supporting students like Shanell as they realize their dreams. See you in Spokane!
