Outstanding effort on behalf of the natural gas industry. That is what the American Gas Association recognized in October, when it presented a slate of awards to past and present utility leaders.
James P. Laurito, operating partner, Energy Impact Partners, and former executive vice president, business development and chief technology officer, Fortis Inc. The Distinguished Service Award, AGA’s highest overall award, is given to those who have made an outstanding and significant contribution to the natural gas distribution industry.
Tom Kuhn, president and CEO, Edison Electric Institute. The Lifetime Achievement Award is given to individuals who have met the highest standards for outstanding leadership, participation in AGA events, and continuous and dedicated organizational service. It is the highest award of merit AGA offers.
Gregg Kantor, former CEO, Northwest Natural Gas Company, and former chair of the AGA board of directors. The Blue Flame Award is presented to former CEOs and presidents of a gas utility company for their service to their customers, their stakeholder community and the natural gas industry as a whole.
Jay Sutton, executive vice president and chief operating officer, Southern Company Gas, and Tracy Townsend, vice president, construction, compliance and safety, Washington Gas Light. The Natural Gas Industry Leadership Award highlights individuals who have made tremendous strides for their companies and taken these achievements forward by sharing their experiences to improve the industry.
“The recipients of these awards have all contributed significantly to their companies and the industry, whether by taking the lead on translating our commitment to the environment into ambitious action, transforming the way their companies do business for the better, or pioneering the use of new and innovative technologies to drive our industry forward,” said Karen Harbert, AGA president and CEO. “AGA is pleased to recognize these distinguished individuals for their inspiring achievements.” —Eric Johnson and Danielle Wong Moores
