ACUHO-I Standards and Competencies Updated
The latest edition of the ACUHO-I Standards and Competencies for Campus Housing Professionals is now available to all ACUHO-I members. The updated document provides peer-determined standards (best practices that institutions of all sizes and types should regularly implement and aspire towards) and guidelines (recommended or aspirational practices that external factors can influence), as well as corresponding professional competencies (knowledge, skills, and behaviors housing professionals need to demonstrate success in their roles). This focus bridges the gap between program goals and workforce capabilities, ensuring that improvements in services are supported by corresponding growth and professional practice development.
Linking a department’s aspirational standards with the skills and knowledge individuals need to meet them in a single document creates a clear path for both professional and personal growth.
“The updates to this document will propel the campus housing profession into the future,” said ACUHO-I CEO and Executive Director Mary DeNiro. “Since the standards were first established in 1984, they have demonstrated that campus housing is a profession filled with performance expectations and professionals who are prepared to meet them. This revised version shows just how much the profession has evolved over the last four decades.”
Campus Home. LIVE! Program Submissions Open
The online application is open for program proposals for the 2026 Campus Home. LIVE! to be held June 21-24 in Orlando, Florida. The deadline is January 5, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. (Eastern). Desired proposals will address new, emerging, and persistent issues in housing and residence life that apply to a variety of campus types, situations, and settings. All session proposals should draw from the revamped ACUHO-I Standards and Competencies for Campus Housing Professionals. The ACUHO-I website offers guidance on creating and submitting a successful proposal.
2025 Marketing Awards Presented
Strategic thinking and creativity were on display last month as the recipients of the 2025 ACUHO-I Marketing Awards were named during the ACUHO-I Business Operations Conference in St. Louis, Missouri. Kennesaw State University was recognized as the winner of the Best of Show and Overall Campaign categories. Other winners and their work can be viewed on the ACUHO-I website.
Marketing staff are expected to communicate a wealth of information to a wide variety of stakeholders. They are asked to convey the benefits of on-campus housing in an increasingly competitive market as well as provide the vital information that will enhance the student experience. By collecting and sharing examples of work from a variety of campuses, departments can be inspired to create innovative, high-quality work of their own.
