While FootJoy is proud of its past – having been ranked as the No. 1 shoe on the PGA Tour every year since 1945 – the company also is focused on its future and maintaining that leadership position. One way to do that, its associates say, is to develop “modern representations of classic golf shoes.” They describe the just-released Premiere series as an example of that.
This line comprises three models, all of which were designed in collaboration with PGA Tour players. Each shoe features an upper described as soft and supple leather, along with Ortholite EcoPlush fitbeds and VersaTrax+ outsoles, to provide equal elements of old and new.
There is the Tarlow collection, inspired by Bill and Dick Tarlow, who bought the FootJoy business in 1957 and concentrated the brand primarily on golf. Company officials describe this model as a “modern interpretation of the timeless cap-toe design.”
The Packard collection takes its name from Frederick Packard, who founded FootJoy and later spearheaded the adoption of modern manufacturing and design innovations. These shoes are notable for their detailing as well as the employment of a pebble-grain leather in both the vamp and the quarter. As with the Tarlow collection, they also have sheepskin linings.
The third member of the Premiere family is the Flint. This offering is named for Perley Flint, who designed FootJoy’s first golf shoe in the 1920s, and employs smooth ChromoSkin leather in the uppers.
A number of tour professionals already are wearing FootJoy Premiere in competition, among them Adam Scott, Justin Thomas, Webb Simpson and Ian Poulter.
“I was lucky enough to work with the FootJoy team over the last several years and talk about what is needed for the best golf shoe out there,” said Scott. “I believe they have achieved that with the Premiere Series.”
Each shoe in the Premiere family offers a two-year waterproof warranty. MyJoys customization is available, as are laced and BOA versions in both the men’s and women’s lines.
