This year has seen FootJoy add several new shoes to its popular Flex line.
Start with the Flex XP, which is the first in that family of spikeless, hybrid footwear to offer waterproof protection. This product also boasts a completely new upper design, with a performance mesh upper. But it uses the same Versa-Trax outsole configuration found in all other Flex shoes. That feature employs a web of multi-dimensional, strategically placed traction elements designed for both on- and off-course wear, and to promote grip and stability wherever they are worn. In addition, Flex XP comes with other hallmarks of the Flex series: a high-density EVA fitbed and so-called bootie-fit construction, to promote a sock-like fit as well as comfort and stability.
As for Coastal Flex (click to view), it, too, has an EVA midsole and bootie-fit construction and uses the Versa-Trax outsole. But the uppers are endowed with a lightweight performance mesh that has the sort of wool-like look that has become popular with tennis shoes and evokes a more casual look and feel. So do the three color combinations in which it is offered: blue/slate laced, black/charcoal laced and white/gray laced.
Then there is Flex LE 2 (click to view), with a cork-covered fitbed that company officials describe as “luxurious” and performance mesh uppers that have a slightly modernized, winged-tip look and are available in gray, black, green and dark blue.
