This winter, Titleist introduced new iterations of its Tour Soft and Velocity balls.
Company engineers say that the 2020 edition of Tour Soft possesses an even larger core than the original, in an effort to provide even faster ball speeds and “category-leading distance” off the tee.
That bigger core compelled those technicians to make the ball’s 4CE grafted cover system even thinner, which endowed Tour Soft with more spin on shots around the green. An advanced dimple design was added to provide a more penetrating ball flight, while a “T” side stamp was included to make it easier to align shots off the tee and on the green.
“Golfers wanting to play a softer-feeling ball shouldn’t have to sacrifice yards off the tee or control into the green,” said Michael Mahoney, vice president of golf ball marketing for Titleist. “We know that their ball has to be much more than just soft, and the new generation of Tour Soft continues to show what’s possible in a lower-compression design.”
With regards to Velocity, it boasts a larger, higher-speed LSX core that is made to generate fast initial velocity with extremely low spin, again for greater distance. But the increased size of that core also adds spin on approach shots, the company says, with officials adding that a new dimple design will produce a more consistent, higher-flying trajectory.
“Velocity golfers love distance, and they never stop asking us for more yards,” Mahoney said. “But we know they’re also trying to shoot lower scores, and distance is only one part of that equation. The advancements our engineers have made to Velocity’s aerodynamics package and high-speed core technology are meaningful. Golfers can take aim from farther away and know that if they put a good swing on the ball, they’ll have the extra distance to reach the green, and with the ball flight to stop it there.”
The Tour Soft is offered in both white and high-optic yellow, while the Velocity comes in white as well as matte pink, matte green and matte orange colors.
