The Texas Golf Association will make history in 2021. It will celebrate tradition, legacy and the game with one the most anticipated seasons in recent memory.
Last year, together we faced many obstacles. One of the few bright
spots in a time of uncertainty was the realization that golf provided a sense
of “normalcy.” We were still able to get outside, exercise while still
social distancing and continue to enjoy the game. As the welfare of everyone
involved in our events remains a top priority, the TGA will continue to use established
safety protocols so that we can look forward to conducting another successful
season of championship golf in 2021.
In 1916, River Crest Country Club in Fort Worth founded the Women’s Texas Golf Association and in the same year staged the new organization’s first statewide championship, the Women’s Texas Amateur. For nearly a century, the WTGA promoted women’s golf
throughout the state and eventually merged with the TGA in 2014. This July, the
TGA will celebrate the 100th Women’s Texas Amateur at the club that started it
all in 1916.
“We are so excited to be returning to the historic club that
hosted the inaugural Women’s Texas Amateur over a century ago,” TGA Director of
Women’s Operations Amy Worthington said. “It is so fitting to host the longest
running women’s amateur championship in Texas at the golf course known for
founding the Women’s Texas Golf Association. I can’t think of a better way to
celebrate this championship’s centennial than to watch the best female amateur golfers
in the state vie for this coveted title at River Crest Country Club.”
The 112th Texas Amateur will continue its historic run as
the state’s most prestigious amateur championship at Midland Country Club. The storied
West Texas club will host the best amateur golfers in the Lone Star State for
the fourth time. Midland CC was also the site of the 1997 Texas Amateur, the
last time the championship was contested in the region.
The 100th Women’s Texas Amateur and 112th Texas Amateur are
just two of the over 40 multi-day championships set for 2021. Over the next several
pages, we’ve highlighted some of the marquee events scheduled for this season.
