Monica Vaughn Fisher
rejoins coaching staff at University of Oregon
The women’s golf program at the University of Oregon has regained a valuable coaching asset.
Monica Vaughn Fisher, originally from the Oregon coastal town of Reedsport and the 2010 PNGA Junior Girls’ Player of the Year, is rejoining the Ducks as an assistant coach, the same role she had held from 2018 to 2023.
Known affectionately as “Coach Mo” to the talented roster that includes the WAGR No. 1 Kiara Romero, Fisher assisted Oregon to its first ever Pac-12 conference title in 2022. That same year, Hsin-Yu Lu won the conference’s individual title with Fisher on staff.
"Coming back to this program and working with Coach D feels like coming home," Fisher said, via the University. "Getting to do something I'm passionate about every day alongside the amazing community at the University of Oregon is like food for the soul. I am so excited to be back and for this upcoming season."
Fisher’s coaching acumen comes from a tremendous playing career of her own. A graduate of Arizona State, Fisher won the NCAA individual women’s golf championship in 2017, the same year in which she helped the Sun Devils claim the national team title.
That all followed an exceptional junior career during which she became one of Oregon and the Northwest’s most accomplished players. In her 2010 Junior Girls’ POY season, for instance, she won the Oregon Women’s Amateur, as well as the Oregon Junior Girls’ and PNGA Junior Girls’ Amateur championships.
In the years following her initial coaching tenure in Eugene, Fisher worked on the Oregon Golf Association staff as director of donor engagement. Her playing skills have endured, too, evidenced by her victory at the 2025 Lamey Cup as a member of Team OGA.
