Choosing their own backyard to make their foray into the world of outdoor and indoor furnishings and accessories, Las Vegas-based Drew and Jonathan Scott of HGTV’s Property Brothers (and other shows, too) unveiled their Scott Living designs at the National Hardware Show, and sat down with Casual Living to share some thoughts on their exciting new venture.

“We did the initial sketches on the collections and were involved right from the beginning,” Jonathan Scott said. “Drew would call me up and say, ‘Here’s my idea. Make it look like something.’”

The twin brothers, who are known worldwide as architectural, real estate and design experts, are clearly passionate about this project. “There was a lot of back-and-forth as we worked on the collections, but we enjoy the collaborative process,” Drew Scott said. Probably because the brothers confirmed that they do, indeed, have a “No B.S. Policy” to make sure they stay true to their visions.

Above all, the collections are designed to be easy-breezy — and good looking. “Everything looks the same out there, but our goal is to get people outside of their comfort zone,” said Jonathan Scott.

The initial Scott Living collection will feature seven completely coordinated product ensembles for outdoor living along with indoors, bed and bath fashions, home décor and accessories. According to Scott Woods, founder and president of Woods International, it is the first totally coordinated collection to address both indoor and outdoor furniture as well as home décor and accessories.

“People can have impact with décor,” Drew Scott said. “But we also were thinking about function so we wanted to make sure we included multi-use pieces like an ottoman that can also work as a table.”

Price is another consideration the brothers kept in mind. “You can go nuts designing, but we needed to think about the consumer and about our retailers matching price points that they have the demand for,” said Jonathan Scott.

The collections overall have clean-line designs like the modern weave and elegant look of the Nantucket collection. The Tahiti collection offers clever storage. Look for the collections on upcoming shows.
