Catholic schools have once again led the way in the field of education and demonstrated how to safely reopen schools in a pandemic. The schools’ mission and Catholic identity continued to be beacons of light as students returned to school liturgies, adoration, daily prayer and retreats.
It is important to recognize that as Catholics we have a responsibility to educate ourselves and our consciences to elect leaders who will enact laws that serve the common good. Furthermore, it is pivotal that our decisions are influenced by our faith and in accordance with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
“Sometimes in the waves of change, we find our true direction.” Those words resonate even more loudly as this crisis provides an opportunity for our Church and schools to reexamine our core values. In order to successfully ground our political and social conversations and actions as educators, we must ask ourselves who we are and what our true direction is.
