The MPS Foundation, in collaboration with Medical Protection and Dental Protection, is proud to launch an annual initiative: The MPS Foundation Ireland Medical and Dental Research Competition.

This exciting competition offers medical and dental healthcare professionals in Ireland the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing advancement of patient care and the wellbeing of the healthcare community; with the chance to win great prizes.

Aims of the competition

The competition is designed to:

  1. Generate more interest in research focused on patient safety, risk reduction, and the wellbeing of medical and dental professionals.

  2. Provide a career-enhancing opportunity for healthcare professionals through research.

  3. Recognise, celebrate, and reward excellence in research that supports safer, more resilient healthcare systems.

Eligibility

The competition is open to all registered medical and dental healthcare professionals in Ireland.

Competition focus

Competition submissions should align with one or more of the following themes:

  1. Patient safety

  2. Risk mitigation

  3. Healthcare professionals’ wellbeing


Participants may submit one of the following:

  1. A quality improvement project with relevance to the competition themes.

  2. A case presentation demonstrating effective management (with relevance to the competition themes) with a supporting literature review.

  3. Practice-based research with practical applications in patient safety, risk mitigation, or wellbeing.

Prizes

Awards will be given in both medical and dental categories:

  1. Winners: €1,500 and a certificate

  2. Runners-up: €1,000 and a certificate

  3. Commended entries: €500 and a certificate

Winners, runners up and commended entrants will be invited by the MPS Foundation to publish articles in Casebook and Riskwise based on their competition entries.
