Stay up-to-date with all team and player news and notes all season long. Go 'Pigs!
LAST TIME OUT: Down to their final out in the ninth, the IronPigs tied the game on a Dustin Peterson solo homer, only to ultimately lose 5-3 in 10 innings in Memphis, solidifying a series loss. Jim Haley went 3-for-5 with an RBI single and Nick Nelson allowed one run over four innings in his first IronPigs start. The IronPigs stranded a season high tying 16 runners on, going 3-for-18 with RISP. Luken Baker won the game for Memphis in the 10th with a three-run double.
TODAY’S OPPONENT: Michael McGreevy makes his second outing of the week for Memphis. McGreevy picked up the win on Tuesday, twirling six shutout innings, scattering six hits and a walk, striking out five. He's now allowed just five runs in his first 18.1 innings at the Triple-A level.
YOU DARE CHALLENGE ME: In the most challenges the IronPigs have seen this season, the Redbirds and 'Pigs went a combined 11- for-14 (unofficially) on challenges last night with IronPigs catcher John Hicks going 9-for-11 on getting the call overturned. POWER SURGE: The IronPigs have been bopping this week, hitting multiple homers in three consecutive games from Wednesday to Friday and have walloped nine homers total this week. In May, the IronPigs are fourth in the IL with 17 homers and 5th with a .487 team slugging percentage. Dustin Peterson has led the charge this week, homering in three straight games.
MUZZY BEAR: Simon Muzziotti has been a hit machine so far this season and is on an absolutely insanse heater. He just saw a 13- game hitting streak come to close where he went 28-for-53 (.528) with three homers, three doubles, and a triple. The triple slash during the run worked out to .528/.576/.793 for a 1.369 OPS. He leads the league in AVG (.395) and is 2nd in hits (51).
LET'S GO SPELUNKING: Diving into Jake Cave's early numbers with the IronPigs, the veteran has a hit in every game he's played since joining the IronPigs (9G). He's gone 17-for-39 with six doubles, two homers, and 12 runs scored plus six RBI. Cave started the year on the Phillies roster before being optioned to Lehigh Valley for the first time on 5/2.
HALEY'S COMET: Jim Haley raced around the bases for an inside-the-park three-run homer on Thursday night. The mad dash was the third inside-the-parker in IronPigs history and first since JP Crawford's on 7/26/17 against Gwinnett. The only other inside-the parker for the IronPigs was by Javon Moran on 5/29/08 against Indianapolis (Big thanks to the Steve Degler Research Library for the pertinent information).
NEW FACES: The IronPigs are taking on the Redbirds for the first time ever in franchise history. Since the realignment of the Inter- national League in 2021, the IronPigs have played a few franchises for the first time ever (Jacksonville, Omaha, Memphis) but still have a few more teams that have yet to face: the St. Paul Saints and the Iowa Cubs.
WESTWARD BOUND: After a week to forget in Jacksonville (1-for-19), Weston Wilson turned around his roadtrip with a strong showing in Syracuse (7-for-21, .333/.464/.762, 3 2B, 2 HR, 10RBI). He posted the 'Pigs first five RBI game of the season on Sunday. He carried the positive momentum home, going 3-for-4 with a homer on Tuesday and the hit his third homer in four games on Thursday.
WALK IT OUT: The 'Pigs drew a season high 13 walks on 5/4, the second most any team has taken in game in the IL this season (16 for Gwinnett vs. Charlotte on 5/2). The 13 walks drawn is a new franchise record, surpassing the 12 the 2010 IronPigs took on 8/20/10 against Pawtucket in a 10 inning game. This also led to the most runners left on base by the 'Pigs (16) since 4/13/16 at Rochester.
ONE HIT WONDERS: The IronPigs pitching staff combined to limit the Mets to just one hit in game two of a doubleheader on Saturday. The lone hit came in the first inning by Mark Vientos for the Mets off of Jake Jewell, meaning the pitching staff went the final 6.1 frames in no-hit fashion. The fran- chise is still searching for its first no-hitter in its 15th year of existence.
PITCHING, DEFENSE, AND FINALLY A 3R HR: After 23 games, the IronPigs finally hit a three-run homer last Friday night, their first of the season (and first homer other than a solo or 2R shot). It naturally came from Simon Muzziotti who hadn't homered yet this season. While the 'Pigs are the last team to hit a homer with at least two runners on, they are not the last to hit a 3R HR: Worcester has managed to hit hit a grand slam, but still hasn't hit a 3R homer.
TOP-30 TALENT: Five Phillies top-30 prospects (per MLB Pipeline) are currently on the IronPigs roster. Simon Muzziotti ranks 10th, Jhailyn Ortiz 18th, McKinley Moore 20th, Francisco Morales 24th, and Hans Crouse 25th.
