The winners of ADLM’s Student Research Award competition were announced at a Monday evening reception hosted by ABCC-SYCL (American Board of Clinical Chemistry and the Society for Young Clinical Laboratorians).
Oral Competition
The presenting authors of the top-scoring student abstracts presented their research before a panel of judges. The following individuals were selected for recognition:
First place: Dan Zhang, MD, for “Clinical Implementation and Outcome Assessment of DPYD Pharmacogenomic Testing to Guide Fluoropyrimidines Dosing for Cancer Patients in Saskatchewan”
Second place: Jack Wu, PhD, for “Clinical Implication of Light Chain Fragmentation in Patients with Monoclonal Gammopathies”
Honorable Mentions:
Chelsea Swartchick, PhD, for “Differential effects of chronic kidney disease on circulating concentrations of phosphorylated tau and beta amyloid Alzheimer’s Disease blood biomarker”
Hunter Miller, PhD, “Automation of serum protein immunofixation electrophoresis interpretation with artificial intelligence (AI).”
Poster Award
Congratulations to the following individuals, whose work was selected from over 50 student posters showcasing research across laboratory medicine:
First place: Isaiah Mensah, PhD, for “Comparative Evaluation of Continuous Glucose Monitoring and Point-of-Care Testing in Hospitalized Pediatric Patients”
Second place: Austin Jin, for “Evaluation of the specialized Medicine-GPT for adolescent health inquiries related to diagnostics and laboratory tests”

The competition was open to students, trainees, postdoctoral fellows, and residents who were presenting authors of accepted poster abstracts for ADLM 2025. Posters were visited by three judges who evaluated them based on scientific quality, clarity, and presentation. Thanks to all who participated in this year’s competition!
