The PGA Tour will introduce a new season-ending model in 2028 as the culmination of its reimagined two-tier schedule, CEO Brian Rolapp announced last Tuesday.
It will begin with a 72-hole stroke-play event for the top 90 players on the Championship Series including the crowning of a season-long champion. From there, a two-week Tour Championship will be conducted with the top 32 players in the season-long points race advancing to begin match play. There will be eight groups of four players, who will compete against each other in match play with the top two from each group advancing to the final week.
In the finale, players will advance through the bracket based on their won-loss record with two undefeated players meeting in the championship match.
East Lake Golf Club, which has been the exclusive host of the Tour Championship since 2004, is among the courses under consideration as a future host, Rolapp said.
“We have received a tremendous level of interest from prospective host venues. As a result, multiple discussions are under way, site visits have begun, and we are encouraged by the enthusiasm we are seeing for the future of the Tour Championship,” Rolapp said, declining to name other potential sites. Captain Angela Stanford finalized the U.S. Solheim Cup team last Monday, announcing Rose Zhang, Megan Khang and Lindy Duncan as her at-large picks for next week’s match against Europe at Bernardus Golf in the Netherlands.
Zhang and Khang, both Solheim Cup veterans, and Duncan, who will be a rookie, will join automatic qualifiers Nelly Korda, Angel Yin, Jennifer Kupcho, Yealimi Noh, Auston Kim, Lauren Coughlin, Allisen Corpuz, Andrea Lee and Alison Lee on the squad. Of the qualifiers, only Kim will be a first-time competitor.
Questions remain regarding the status of Yin, who has been sidelined by illness for most of the last two months. Yin, who lost 35 pounds as a result of what she described as stomach and gastrointestinal issues, returned to competition at last week’s FM Championship near Boston, missing the cut with rounds of 81-76.
Should Yin be deemed unfit to play in the Netherlands, Stanford would need to use an alternate whose identity has not been disclosed. READ MORE

The league is optimistic that many employees could return under the “LIV 2.0” iteration it is working toward with new funding, but no decisions regarding future employment have been made, LIV said in a statement.
