For players who like to open up the face of their wedges around the greens and in bunkers, Callaway’s new Full Toe SP is designed to be the most creative face in golf.
The Full Toe SP wedge combines full-face “spin gen 2.0” grooves from heel to toe with 44 percent more groove area than conventional-shaped wedges. It presents a refined new shape with an enhanced toe height as well as optimized center-of-gravity weighting that shifts mass higher up the face to help deliver high spin across the face and aggressive stopping power and versatility.
“When you’re around the green, Full Toe SP brings out so much creativity, whether it’s out of the bunker, the rough, the fairway or whether you’re playing with a high, low, open face or square face,” said Jacob Davidson, Callaway VP of global product strategy. “With the Full Toe shape, we’ve increased that area of that high toe, which allows you to have more room on that side of the club. And by adding full-length grooves that extend across the face, there’s much more groove area to work with on this wedge.”
With the expanded groove area and a 17-degree tighter pitch spacing, Callaway says the Full Toe SP generates more groove edge contact for maximum spin and improved versatility on open-face shots.
“With the Full Toe, this is a new level for us from a CG placement standpoint,” said Brian Hurr, Callaway’s R&D manager for wedges. “That high CG promotes extra spin. Having the grooves across the face, having that shape that really is designed to open that face is really an incredible opportunity for people that struggle around the green to have something that’s new and different.”
Full Toe SP wedges ($199.99, with loft options available in 54, 56, 58, 60 and 62 degrees) offer several unique grinds, including a J Grind for lower effective bounce with aggressive heel relief and added camber, allowing it to open easily while maintaining stability on fuller shots. The JW Grind (for the 62-degree only) has a wider sole and higher bounce to make bunker play more accessible without sacrificing short-game versatility.
