Five-time major winner Brooks Koepka, whose return to the PGA Tour from LIV Golf at the start of this season generated much fanfare, is fighting for his playoff life.
Koepka, 36, withdrew from last week’s Rocket Classic with no reason cited. He previously withdrew before the final round of the RBC Canadian Open in June with a hand injury that was causing numbness and affecting his grip. Koepka subsequently missed the cut at the U.S. Open and Genesis Scottish Open before finishing T28 at the Open Championship.
Koepka is ranked 86th in the FedEx Cup standings. He is listed in the field for this week’s Wyndham Championship and will need a strong performance to finish among the top 70 who will qualify the FedEx Cup playoffs. READ MORE

The first four tournaments that will be part of the PGA Tour’s newly conceived Championship Series in 2028 were revealed last week: the Travelers Championship, the Sentry at Torrey Pines, the Arnold Palmer Invitational and a new tournament sponsored by Japanese insurer Sompo.
The tour confirmed the Travelers tournament, a signature event and long-standing stop at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut, as the first Championship Series event last Monday; and the Sentry, another signature event that will be played starting next year at Torrey Pines in La Jolla, California, as part of the series last Wednesday. Tournament officials announced the signature Arnold Palmer Invitational at the Bay Hill Club in Orlando, Florida, as part of the series last Thursday.
Sompo will sponsor a full-field tournament at Silverado Resort in Napa, California, next year before the event transitions to the Championship Series and moves to a yet-to-be announced market in 2028, the tour announced last Tuesday. READ MORE
LIV Golf may have found the investment capital to sustain itself beyond this season, according to a report last week.
The league has received “multiple written commitments from blue-chip investment firms that would serve as anchor investors” to support it moving forward, the New York Post reported last Wednesday, citing unnamed sources. The prospective investors have submitted qualified term sheets that would “support the formation of a financing syndicate with sufficient backing to capitalize” LIV Golf’s next iteration, the report said.
LIV has also drawn interest from additional investors looking to participate alongside the anchor investors, it added. It is expected that a deal will be finalized in September, the sources told the newspaper.
As LIV seeks to secure its future, it is expected that the company will file for bankruptcy to restructure contracts and debt, the Flushing It social media account reported, citing unnamed league insiders. LIV has offered players with outstanding contract payments equity in the league, the report said.
Although multiple reports speculated last week that LIV would cancel its season-ending team championship in Michigan scheduled for late August, there had been no announcement regarding the tournament’s status as of Sunday. READ MORE
