Coming up aces
Further to John Hopkins’ letter last week regarding two holes-in-one on the same hole (“It’s Your Honor: Astounding feat at Hoylake,” June 8, GGP), I had a similar experience a few years ago.
It happened on the 12th hole of the Bay Island Course at the Bonita Bay Golf Club in Bonita Springs, Florida. I was playing in my usual Wednesday group and hit a nice shot that looked like it went in the hole. Next up, another player in the group, Alan Vanacore, hit another nice shot that appeared to go in the hole as well. When we arrived at the green we were delighted that both balls were in the hole. Also, amazingly, we both hit the same club, 6-iron from 142 yards, and the same ball brand and number, a Bridgestone E6, #1.
Although we have played together many times since we have been unable to duplicate the feat.

A dreaded ‘other’ for SI
A big “Amen” to your column (“Divot: A sad ‘Amen’,” June 8, GGP).
For the first time in more than five decades I am ready to cancel my Sports Illustrated subscription. No golf coverage is a triple bogey at best but it’s the perfect reason for me to finally walk away as a subscriber.

Fear and loathing on journalism trail
How true indeed! (“Divot: A sad ‘Amen’,” Jan. 8, GGP)
I’m a former owner/editor of a small weekly in Illinois that no longer exists. People feared the end of newspapers when television first started broadcasting news – it didn’t happen. But the internet is killing the printed press and my fear is democracy is next. But then, what do I know? I am 91 on June 26, can still break 100 and cried when I once thought LIV would destroy the tour.
Thanks for your article. Amen!

Rory and Co. deserve a break
I agree with Rory (“Elusive quest for ideal schedule persists,” June 8, GGP). He has earned the right as most players have to pick and choose when and where to play. Golfers know when they need a break, whether it’s physical or mental. Having the four majors with other key events interspersed with signature events so close to one another is just too much.
If Brian Rolapp isn’t careful, we might see key players take a knee.
