Titleist rounds out its GT metalwood family with an ultra-lightweight lineup of GT1 driver, fairway and hybrid designed to deliver high launch, fast ball speeds and increased stability.
The new GT1 metalwoods feature lightweight configurations (including shaft and grip) with the deepest center of gravity in the GT family to facilitate effortless launch and speed for moderate swing speed players, yet can be configured with a standard build to accommodate all players seeking higher launch and mid-spin performance.
“Making the line launch higher, while maintaining optimal spin rates, is really going to benefit both the moderate speed player as well as the player that is naturally low spin,” said Stephanie Luttrell, director of Titleist metalwood product development.
As with the GT2, GT3 and GT4 driver designs, weight is saved while retaining sound and feel in the GT1 driver ($649) through its seamless thermocore crown made from Titleist’s proprietary matrix polymer. The driver features a split mass construction, with weight redistributed internally for higher launch and optimal speed, spin and stability for the GT1 player. Faster clubhead speed was unlocked through improved aerodynamic shaping, and faster ball speed was achieved via “speed ring” and variable face thickness technology.
“The GT1 driver has a very aerodynamic shape – it is the shallowest head in terms of face depth and profile in the lineup,” said Luttrell. “We worked hard to refine crown and sole shape curvatures to make it even faster through the air.”
GT1 fairways ($399) and hybrids ($329) have subtle shape refinements and both offer new dual performance control settings through forward-aft flat-weight adjustability, allowing fitters and golfers to adjust launch conditions, speed and stability by flipping the position of a heavier weight and a lighter weight.
“Having the option to move that weight forward in the fairway really gives fitters a good opportunity to fit different types of players into GT1 than we could have with TSR1,” said Tom Bennett, principal product manager for Titleist metalwoods.
The GT1 hybrid clubface is longer from heel to toe than its predecessor, helping retain speed on off-center strikes and adding forgiveness, while the tip can accommodate a fairway shaft to play softer and launch higher.
