Former U.S. President Donald Trump’s resort in Scotland will open a second course next year, according to U.K. media reports.
Trump International Scotland’s MacLeod Course, named after Trump’s late mother, Scottish native Mary MacLeod, is targeted for a summer opening in Balmedie, Aberdeenshire, in northeast Scotland along the North Sea. The original Trump International Golf Links course opened in 2012.
Trump officials tout the resort as having the “largest sand dunes in Scotland” and will feature “the greatest 36 holes in golf.”
Trump, who is seeking to return to the White House as the Republican nominee for president, relinquished control of his golf empire to son Eric before taking the oath of office in 2017 but retained a financial interest.
Environmentalists have waged an ongoing fight against the site’s development, citing the land’s sensitivity. Four years ago, the dunes lost their status as a site of special scientific interest, or SSSI.
The Trump Organization also plans to develop a $1.5 billion complex of hotels and golf courses near Hanoi, Vietnam. READ MORE and MORE
