As far as Tour Edge president and master club designer David Glod is concerned, the game-improvement market falls into two categories.
“One includes players who want extreme ease of use and launch to the maximum degree,” he said. “And the other is those golfers who want the benefits of game-improvement clubs but with classic head shapes.”
The result of that thinking is the creation of two new series of Tour Edge Hot Launch clubs: the E521 (with the E standing for extreme) and the C521 (with the C meaning for competition). Each line features its own driver, fairway metal, hybrid and iron models as well as different shapes, specs and shafts. They are scheduled to be available in November.
According to Glod, the E521 driver is a 460-cc club made from premium 6-4 titanium. It boasts an elevated moment of inertia to enhance stability and forgiveness. And the use of what is described as Houdini Sole Technology pushes weight back and low, for easier launches and higher launch angles. A super-shallow Cup Face is designed to help optimize launch as well, while the employment of heel, draw-biased weighting along with “slice-fighting offset” is included to improve accuracy.
The C521 also is a 460-cc product. But this one utilizes Diamond Face technology, with 39 different thick and thin mini-trampolines (all diamond-shaped) fashioned to produce faster ball speeds across the entire clubface. Rear sole weighting bolsters MOI in these sticks as well, increasing both power and stability and improving forgiveness. A Power Channel is also included, on the sole and just behind the clubface, for better weight distribution and increased face flexing. Offset is minimal in the C521, and the shaping of these drivers is touted by company officials as “classic.”
