Sean Toulon says his mission is quite simple – make the most beautiful and best performing milled putters in the world. And he claims he once again has achieved that with his 2020 Odyssey Toulon Collection, describing it as “a union of premium materials, intelligent design, expert craftsmanship, beautiful shaping and advanced performance technologies.”
His latest release includes a variety of blades and mallets, each of which bears the name of an American city. There is, for example, the Chicago, a double-bend blade, and the Atlanta, which is a toe-hang mallet with the company’s H7 hosel. The others are Las Vegas (which is used as the appellation for a pair of mallets), Memphis, Seattle, San Diego and Austin.
As different as the shapes may be, the flat sticks all bear many of the same features. Each comes with deep, crosshatch grooves across the entire face that are designed to control sound and feel by channeling vibration. And the small groove inside each diamond pattern (hence the use of the term “diamond mill” in describing the technology) is made to enhance the quality of the roll.
Another common feature is the charcoal smoke finish. And the putters all use stroke-lab weighting, with a multi-material shaft enabling company engineers to redistribute some 40 grams of weight to the head and grip end of the club, for improved tempo and consistency in the stroke.
Then, there is the adjustable sole plate weighting system, with each Toulon Design putter being sold with a 20-gram weight as well as additional 7- and 40-gram options for golfers who want a lighter or heavier feel to the head.
