The R&A is continuing its drive to keep golfers and non-golfers active and engaged through its #GolfAtHome campaign, as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact society.
Through more creative content – covering areas of the sport such as fitness, nutrition, instruction and rules – the social media campaign is keeping golf lovers busy, focused, informed … and having fun.
While players are missing time on the course, the #GolfAtHome initiative encourages golfers of all ages and abilities to get creative by sharing photos and videos of themselves or their family practicing at home or in the garden, provided it is in a safe and responsible manner.
The R&A is posting the best across its social media platforms, from trick shots across the living room floor to amazing chip shots in the garden. Beginners, club golfers, elite amateurs and leading professionals all have been showcasing their skills.
Now, leading golf broadcaster and fitness enthusiast Iona Stephen is supporting the activity, sharing her lockdown experience at home in St Andrews. To help people through this time both physically and mentally, Stephen is sharing fitness routines, healthy recipes, practice drills and more.
Golf fans also can look for content to come from R&A ambassador Georgia Hall, the 2018 Women’s British Open champion, who has created home tutorial videos.
Grant Moir’s “Rules From The Garden” are proving popular as golfers enjoy a unique take on the regulations that govern the playing of the sport. Moir, director of Rules at The R&A, has been taking viewers through fun situations from his “home course” in his back garden, including unplayable lies and penalty areas.
It’s an ideal time to brush up on Rules of Golf knowledge, with The R&A Rules Academy an online resource for golfers of all levels and experience. It provides an interesting and easy way to learn the basics of the Rules of Golf, culminating in an optional Level 1 exam.
Or why not go down memory lane in your spare time and enjoy watching all of The Open official films and episodes of Chronicles of a Champion Golfer at TheOpen.com?
The R&A also is supporting the Golf Foundation’s #LockdownKnockdown initiative, encouraging young players and members of their families to take part in fun games which promote creativity and confidence.
