The latest Special Select putter line from Scotty Cameron is composed of eight new models, including three blades (Newport, Newport 2 and Newport 2.5) and five mid-mallets (a refined Del Mar as well as Fastback 1.5, Squareback 2, Flowback 5 and Flowback 5.5.) Each is milled from solid 303 stainless steel and features what Cameron calls sleeker head profiles with thinner, flatter top lines.
Cameron also says they boast refined neck configurations, ranging from the slightly shorter plumbing neck of the Newport and Newport 2 to the heel-shafted flow neck of the Del Mar. All new Special Selects also have soft tri-sole designs to promote proper setup at address and performance-balanced weighting that expands on the use of the interchangeable sole weights so golfers can fine tune their flat sticks better.
“I’m always inspired by the putters that result from working directly with the best players in the world,” Cameron said. “With Special Select, I wanted to get back to the pure-milled shapes and faces that I’ve been crafting for tour players for over two decades now. We’ve brought those designs into the modern era. Every aspect of every putter has been redone. When it all came together, it was pretty special.”
These Special Selects come with new Pistolini Plus grips in cement gray with white lettering and a slightly built up lower-hand profile. In addition, Cameron gave the raw stainless steel finish of the clubs a bead blast for “a radiant yet glare resistant appearance” while also altering the three-red-dot patterns on the back cavity by milling each dot with a recessed circular channel and then hand-painting it with a cherry red color.
