The Southern California PGA is pleased to announce the appointment of Robert Baier, PGA, to Director of Competitions, replacing Tyler Glover, who went back to work at the North Texas PGA Section where he started as an intern and now will serve as their Director of Competitions.
Baier, who is an active PGA Member, has served the Section as the Tournament Manager for the past two years and worked at The Palms Golf Club as a Head Professional prior to joining the SCPGA team. He now cements his name into the SCPGA history books, joining the prestigious list of other SCPGA Director of Competitions who have held the role before him. Baier, and his new tournament manager (TBD), will work closely together to ensure that the SCPGA continues to conduct first-class events for its members and associates.
Congratulations to Southern California PGA Section members Michael Block, PGA, of Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club, and Mark Geddes, PGA, of Coronado Golf Course, who represented the Section proudly at stops on the ‘26 PGA TOUR West Coast Swing. Block (The American Express) and Geddes (Farmers Insurance Open) punched their ticket into their event by winning the 2025 SCPGA Section Championship and by earning 2025 SCPGA Player of the Year honors, respectively.
The Southern California PGA kicked off its 2026 season with the Mixed Professional-Professional Championship at Aliso Viejo Country Club, as Scott Cherry, PGA, of Mission Hills Country Club and Kaitlyn Ellis, PGA, of Monterey Country Club, claimed the championship with a 10-under-par total of 61.
The Mixed Professional-Professional Championship is an annual team event consisting of one male PGA Professional and one female PGA Professional, competing in a Triple Play Format: six holes Pinehurst, six holes Scramble, and six holes FourBall.
Thank you to event partners, Maui Jim, the PGA TOUR, and Pepsi, as well as the host facility, Aliso Viejo Country Club, and Head Golf Professional Kyle Lewis, PGA.
The Southern California PGA is heartbroken to announce the passing of Ron O’Connor. A legend within the SCPGA, O’Connor served the Section as the Executive Director (1979-1988), Tournament Director (1988 – 2001), and on the Rules Committee (1977 – 2022). His passion for golf and love for the Section also earned him many decorated awards in Southern California: Presidents Award (1981), Professional Development Award (1983 & 1996), Bill Strausbaugh Award (1984 & 1987), Honorary Life Member (1991), Horton Smith Award (1991), Hall of Fame (1993), Golf Professional of the Year (2007), and Junior Golf Hall of Fame (2015).
Thank you, Ron, for all your incredible years of service and your dedication to the game we love.
