Junior Tour of Northern California member Gianna Singh and past NCGA champion Joey Hayden were the big winners at the 110th annual San Francisco City Championship at TPC Harding Park.
Singh notched one of the biggest wins of her blossoming career. The high school junior defeated Staci Pla, 4 and 3, in the finals.
Singh had entered match play as the No. 11 seed. Pla was the medalist and No.1 seed.
Hayden, winner of the 2024 NCGA Amateur Stroke Play Championship, also proved that anything is possible in match play.
The No.21 seed defeated Will Hardy, the No.26 seed in the 36-hole final.
In the Senior Women’s Championship, Xialong ‘Sherry’ Zhong defeated NCGA Hall of Famer Lynne Cowan, 1 -up, to win the title. Zhong in the days prior to the finals had competed in the LPGA Fortinet Founders Cup on a sponsor’s exemption.
In the Senior Championship, 2024-25 NCGA Super Senior Player of the Year Bob Niger got the win thanks to a 3 and 2 victory over Todd Doss. The Super Senior title went to Jeff Thomas, who defeated runner-up Dean Prince on the 19th hole.
