Who doesn’t like low-maintenance, incremental revenues? IAC’s Vimeo, a digital video platform, has made its on-demand video service available to other publishers. The service embeds Vimeo’s player into the publisher’s site and allows visitors to rent or buy ad-free videos.

Launch partners include The Atlantic, CBS Interactive Media Group and TEN: The Enthusiast Network, and each is using the service in unique ways that complement either their existing video offerings and/or align with a particular editorial strategy.

CBS Interactive’s TV Guide.com, TV.com and Metacritic, for example, will be able to serve up some of the shows and movies that the site frequently profiles. Visitors who search for specific titles on the sites will now see on-demand programs in the results listings.

The Atlantic, which has already been curating videos from a variety of sources, is now able to monetize some of that content through an embedded Vimeo player with select titles for sale or rent.

TEN is using a more customized strategy, partnering with Vimeo to use its platform to set up storefronts for the publisher’s sports brands, including TransWorld Motocross, TransWorld Skateboarding, TransWorld Snowboarding, Surfer and Powder.

Publishers can either have total control over the content that’s available through the storefronts or let Vimeo curate it for them. There are currently 50,000 videos in Vimeo’s library.
