Two races into the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season, Hendrick Motorsports has collected two wins courtesy of two of its four drivers: Kyle Larson and Alex Bowman, who went to Victory Lane the past weekends, respectively. Will the streak continue on Sunday at Phoenix Raceway, the 1-mile Arizona track where Larson is the series’ most recent winner having triumphed last November on the way to his first Cup championship? It’s certainly possible, especially considering the quartet of Hendrick drivers was in the hunt for the win and finished in the top 10 this past weekend.
“What I really love seeing is all four of our cars being so close out there on the track,” Hendrick Motorsports vice chairman Jeff Gordon said. “It shows you the kind of information that they’re sharing, how much they’re in sync with one another back in the shop when they’re building these cars, setting the cars up.” Bowman, who prevailed over Larson at Vegas in a last-lap battle for the win, is from Tucson, Arizona, so Sunday’s race in the Valley of the Sun is an opportunity to win for the first time in his home state and give the Hendrick organization a third consecutive victory.
“I think Hendrick Motorsports, the depth of people and how good each and every person is there, pays off,” Bowman said. “We’re here with a new race car that has completely changed everything in our industry, from how they work on it, how they build it. Everything I touch is different, the pedals, shifter, the steering. Obviously, it’s paying off, how good everybody is at HMS. I think we’re in a pretty good spot.”
