Tensions remain high between Chase Elliott and Kevin Harvick, whose late-race run-in and fiery post-race exchange at Bristol Motor Speedway last month have remained the talk of the NASCAR Cup Series garage for the past few weeks. The bad blood between Elliott and Harvick continued this past weekend on the ROVAL at Charlotte Motor Speedway where Harvick deliberately wrecked Elliott as payback for the way Elliott raced him at Bristol. So, is it now finally over between the two or will the battle rage this weekend at Texas Motor Speedway?
Elliott is one of eight drivers still in the hunt for the championship, but Harvick — who was eliminated from title contention with a late-race crash of his own making on Sunday at the ROVAL — will be competing for little more than money, pride and the winner’s trophy. When asked during a post-race interview at the ROVAL if he and Elliott were now “even,” Harvick smiled and turned away, refusing to answer the question. This was after saying, “Sometimes real life teaches you good lessons,” and, “You remember Bristol,” in response to questions about his contact with Elliott earlier in the race.
Meanwhile, Elliott threw shade on Harvick after the race by sarcastically wishing the 2014 Cup Series champion a “merry offseason and a happy Christmas” during a televised interview. This was an obvious reference to the fact that Harvick had just been eliminated from the playoffs and won’t get to compete for the championship moving forward. Will the two drivers lock horns once again in Texas? Stay tuned.
